Dominoes is an ancient game that has been played by kings and presidents throughout history and still enjoys incredible popularity amongst people from all countries and all walks of life today. The oldest known domino set was found in the tomb of the ancient Egyptian King Tutankhamen, who lived in the 18th dynasty, 1355 BC. Modern dominoes, as most of the Western world knows them, however, appear to be a Chinese invention. They were apparently derived from cubic dice, which had been introduced into China from India sometime in the distant past. In the early 18th Century, dominoes made their way to Europe, making their first appearance in Italy, where the game changed somewhat in the translation from Chinese to European culture. It wasn’t long before the game made its way to Great Britain and then the United States. Today, dominoes is considered to be the national game of many Latin American countries, and is a popular club game in Europe, and a hot party game in the United States.
