Video Games
Video games are one of the most popular forms of entertainment for young people today, with national contests held by different gaming organizations that attract thousands of participants and dole out some respectable prize money. It is not totally clear who invented the first video game, as claims for the innovation have been made by the scientific, electronic, computer and arcade communities. Many believe the idea for the video game was conceived and patented by Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann in 1948. In 1958, William Higinbotham's Tennis for Two was developed, followed in 1962 by "Spacewar!",which was hailed as the very first computer video game. With names like Age of Empires III and Two Days 2 Vegas, today’s video games are much more complex than the rudimentary early games and they can be played on a variety of consoles ranging from Sony’s Playstation to the Microsoft’s Xbox consoles. Some video games have been very controversial, as critics have argued for a ban on products that are especially gory and violent. But video games are so popular now that not even the loudest critics can slow down their sales.
